Mathematics plays a key role in the development of analytic, problem solving and logical skills. Recognizing this, our curriculum incorporates activities that develop and enhance critical math skills from an early age. We consider the interrelationship between mathematics and other disciplines to be essential in educating the whole student.

Learning music enhances student motor skills, language, memory, and intellect. Our curriculum infuses the music with other areas such as mathematics, language, reading, and environmental sciences. While developing academic knowledge, the students participate in a musical activity using both singing and instrumental playing, making learning not only fun but also beneficial to the development of the whole child. The following broad goals are achieved through our AAA music curriculum.

(1) Application of Vocal and Rhythmic Skills: This is achieved through movement and the use of body percussion to demonstrate awareness of beat and tempo. Students use their voices to speak, chant, and sing in a rhythmic manner.

(2) Listening to, analyzing and describing music: Students identify the sources of a wide variety of sounds and use body movement to respond to dynamics and tempo.

(3) Deriving Meaning:  Students create movements in response to music, and use this music as a form of expression, while they participate in collaborative musical and physical activities.

Our theatre curriculum allows students to work as a team while developing their self-confidence and social skills.

Each student will have the opportunity to use their imagination and creatively develop the “vocabulary of theatre,” using pretending, imagination, movement, puppetry, and audience participation to describe theatrical experiences. Students will develop the ability to comprehend and analyze the elements of theatre and identify characteristic movements and sounds of animated creation.

Theatre studies develop a student’s theatrical skills while learning about the role and cultural significance of the theatre. Students use connections and applications to develop their ability to use body, voice, and imagination to illustrate concepts in other content areas, including movement and voice to reinforce vocabulary.

Dance is important to the development of a child’s motor skills and technical expertise. Through the AAA dance curriculum, students learn to move in a variety of directed ways by imitating the movements shown.

Our curriculum enhances each student’s ability to comprehend and analyze dance elements, and to develop a dance vocabulary. Using both song and dance, students are able to express themselves freely through creative movement.

The AAA dance curriculum encourages students to create a personal love for dance by making movement fun, challenging, and exciting, which enhances the development of self-confidence, self-awareness, leadership qualities, strength, and coordination.

Visual Arts

The development of perceptual skills and visual arts vocabulary is achieved through learning to discuss visual and tactile perceptions of the natural and human-made world. These skills are essential in areas such as problem-solving and innovation, which help students develop an understanding of processes, materials, and tools necessary for the creation of connections and applications of abstract ideas into tangible form.
